You might have heard news that hit singer Kevin Aviance was badly beaten by a group of men in the East Village early Saturday morning. He’d just walked out of the Phoenix at 1 a.m. when he was taunted by the men who shouted anti-gay slurs and then beat and kicked Aviance while he was on the ground. He was due to perform at Gay Pride, but now is at Beth Israel with his jaw wired shut. The head of Gay and Lesbian Anti-Violence Project said what was probably on many people’s minds: “Here it is. Kevin Aviance in the East Village in boy’s clothes, in a place that’s supposed to be ours, getting beat up.”
