DC Comics is looking to diversify their superhero ranks, so in that spirit, they’re reintroducing the Batwoman character as…a red-and-black latex clad “wealthy, buxom lipstick lesbian.” She’ll appear in the July issue of “52.”

For what it’s worth (comic book nerdery follows):
“52″ is actually a weekly series, unlike most other DC titles (it runs in the missing year of continuity immediately between the Inifinite Crisis reset and the “One Year Later” re-debuts of the major DC series), so issue 11 will actually be on shelves on July 19. “52″ issues have already heavily featured Renee Montoya, an out lesbian detective (who apparently has some connection to the new Batwoman.)
In other queer DC comics universe news, the Infinite Crisis spinoff series “Villains United” features a lesbian couple (Knockout and Scandal Savage.)
