Sir Ian McKellen Unplugged

We’ve been really enjoying the good gay knight as he embarks on press tours for both The Da Vinci Code and X-Men 3, putting all his American costars to shame with his pithy pronouncements. In regards to the controversy over The Da Vinci Code, he told a crowd at Cannes that he thought the Catholic Church would’ve been pleased with the theory that Jesus had bedded and wedded Mary Magdalene because, “I thought this would be absolutely proof that Jesus was not gay.” Also at Cannes, he spoke about the X-Men mutant-ness as metaphor for homosexuality, and noted that he channeled his anger over ex-gay therapies into his Magneto role. And on the lighter side, he told Empire magazine that he was disappointed Magento had yet to get a love interest and mused, “It would be wonderful if the camera hovered over Magneto’s bed, to discover him making love to Professor X.” We’re not sure what Sir Ian was like when he was in the closest, but we suspect he’s way more fun now.
