You’re Still Talking…

Wednesday, April 26th, 2006

Don’t forget—today is the National Day of Silence in which students across the country keep quiet to protest the treatment of LGBT people everywhere. The Gay, Lesbian & Straight Education Network estimates half a million students will participate this year. We wonder how many of those currently attend our old high school. Times do change.

Tonight On HBO

Bille Jean King: Portrait of a Pioneer premieres at 10 p.m. and pays worthy homage to the tennis star who made the world safe for women athletes everywhere. Her “Battle of the Sexes” match against Bobby Riggs in 1973 may have been a sideshow, but as New York magazine notes, “…had Billie Jean lost, so […]

Wednesday, April 26th, 2006

Jeff Whitty, who won a Tony for the book to Avenue Q, recently wrote an open letter to Tonight Show host Jay Leno, and it’s been making some fierce rounds on the web. Whitty was getting progressively pissed off at Leno’s eagerness to tell Brokeback-inspired gay jokes on air, so he dashed off a note […]

Nassau County legislators however, just rejected a basic domestic partnership law in a close 10-8 vote. It was a surprise, in part, because […]

Catching those ladies on skates will be a lot easier come next month. The Gotham Girls roller derby league will be moving to Long Island University’s Brooklyn campus after their previous base, the Skate Key in the Bronx, closed down last month. The move to the Schwartz Athletic Center is only temporary though—they’re still looking […]

Spiritually Uplifting TV

Tuesday, April 25th, 2006

Our favorite part from the NY Times review of the Here! made-for-TV movie In Her Line of Fire, about a lesbian Secret Service agent (Mariel Hemingway) who falls for the hot press secretary after the vice president’s plane crashes in the jungle:
Meaningful looks are exchanged as the vice president smirks. He pulls Delaney aside and […]

Spotted At Starlight

Monday, April 24th, 2006

The Daily New’s Rush & Molloy reports that Threepenny Opera costars Alan Cumming and Cyndi Lauper were seen partying into the wee hours on Saturday night at Starlight, even though they had a matinee on Sunday. Said Lauper of Cumming: “It’s all his fault. I was nice, very pure, never did anything wrong, and then […]
