How are domain names like New York real estate? Both cause us huge amounts of regret for not being smarter and buying in earlier. Case in point: Sue Beckwith, a woman from St. Louis, had the foresight to buy the doman name “lesbian.com” ten years ago for the standard 35 dollars. Since 1999, she and a couple business partners have kept it up as basic lesbian resource site. Now however, they’ve decided to sell the domain—for $2 million. (Which, if you do the math, is a way better than having bought in Park Slope ten years ago.) They’re likely to get something close to that: They once had an offer from a porn producer for $250,000 which they ultimately turned down. And don’t forget, “sex.com” sold for about $14 million earlier this year. Beckwith is hoping some well-intentioned lesbo ponies up, but knows that the porn folks will also be making bids. Here’s hoping there’s a rich sugar momma out there with some cash to spend.
