Good Vibrations Goes Corporate
Salon’s Broadsheet has a great look at last week’s news that Good Vibrations, the groundbreaking San Francisco-based sex toy store, is switching its business model. OK, that doesn’t sound nearly as exciting as the latest models in vibrators, but it does offer an interesting statement on these our modern times. The company has been cooperative since 1992, meaning all of its employees had a stake in that good, old-fashioned feminist kind of way. On Friday though, the company announced it was becoming a general corporation, which means lots more cash, but maybe not as many good vibes. Part of the problem? Good Vibrations had so many employees that it was hard to reach a consensus on anything. Too much processing, we suspect.

I’ve always had less than good vibrations about Good Vibrations - they replaced a rather fantastic store here in the B Town (Grand Openings) and it just isn’t the same.
