Well on Broadway

Friday, March 31st, 2006

Lisa Kron, one of the Five Lesbian Brothers, just opened her autobiographical play Well on Broadway last night and got an almost-rave from Ben Brantley at the Times. A funny, moving look at Kron’s hilarious, but ailing mother, it’s running at the Longacre Theater (220 W. 48th). Tickets can purchased here.

The Wit, Wisdom, and Lesbian Three-Way of Sharon Stone

Friday, March 31st, 2006

We’ve been really enjoying Sharon Stone’s peerless nuttiness during her whirlwind press tour for Basic Instinct 2 (in theaters today!) Salon’s got an annotated round-up of all the best soundbites from her recent interviews, including a quote that goes something like this: “Is she naked? Nude? Nude? Naked? Do I see her boobies? I don’t […]

Those Crazy Swedes

Friday, March 31st, 2006

The AP reports that a Stockholm kennel owner had to pay a $2,600 (but you know, in kronor) fine after she agreed to sell a dog to a woman, then reneged when she found out the buyer was a lesbian. She must’ve heard about that bogus Focus on the Family study that showed that puppies […]

Friday, March 31st, 2006

And you thought Julia Roberts was going to be the hottest thing to hit New York theater this spring. Pilot Alert! Farewell Carmen?

Friday, March 31st, 2006

This week, Entertainment Weekly had a story about television pilots and how their casting often is a clear tip-off about who’s leaving established shows. For instance, Drea de Matteo getting cast in Joey left no doubt that Adriana was a goner. And of course, there’s Erin Daniels who got a job on that new bounty […]

Marriage for Mass. Residents Only

Thursday, March 30th, 2006

The Massachusetts supreme court just upheld the 1913 segregation-era marriage law, meaning out-of-state couples still cannot get married in the only state that recognizes gay marriage. The man responsible for the new enforcement of that moldy oldie of a law, Mass. Gov. Mitt Romney, celebrated the decision by repeating a line he used back in […]

Your Supreme Court Justice

Thursday, March 30th, 2006

A tape of a speech that Antonin Scalia gave at a university in Switzerland last month was just made public. On the subject of gay rights, he had this to say:
Question comes up: is there a constitutional right to homosexual conduct? Not a hard question for me. It’s absolutely clear that nobody ever thought when […]

The L Word: Into the Abyss

Thursday, March 30th, 2006

Okay, uncle. We think we’ve had enough. We’ve given our energy, our enthusiasm, our each and every Sunday night, and all we’ve got to show for it is a sour mood come 11 p.m. Maybe we expect too much. Maybe we keep hoping The L Word will become a beloved weekend ritual like our long-lamented […]

Portia di Rossi’s Grandma

Thursday, March 30th, 2006

In a recent interview, di Rossi described coming out to her 99-year old Aussie grandmother. She had her mom show pictures of Portia and Ellen, and explain that the two were living together. But the information failed to make an impression—when Portia spoke to her grandmother later about her relationship, grandma was completely surprised, saying, […]
